Gillian Anderson and Rebecca Hall will star in The Portrait, with Sara Colangelo writing and directing the film, according to Bloody Disgusting.[2] The story follows Valeria, an acclaimed writer whose longtime lover Martín becomes ill, and Isla, his artist wife.[1][2]
Valeria commissions Isla to paint her portrait, using the arrangement to enter Martín’s home and family as she tries to be near him during his final days.[1][2] The reports describe the story as a clash between the lover and the wife inside the family’s London townhouse.[1][2] The film is based on a novel by Ilaria Bernardini.[1][2]
Colangelo said the project continues her interest in moral ambiguity, female transgression, women’s power and subversiveness.[1][2] Producers Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren also commented on the film and its casting, according to Bloody Disgusting.[2] Neither report gives a release date or where the film will be available to watch.[1][2]
